2023-2024 PRHS Band Handbook & Contract (Due by Mon. 8/21): Mrs. Robinson presented this year’s Band Handbook in class last week. The handbook is posted on Canvas under “Modules.” All parents and students are asked to read pages 1-11 and complete the contract on page 12. This contract is due electronically on Canvas by 5:00pm on Monday, August 21st. This will be counted as a graded assignment. Thank you for your cooperation. Make-up Assignments: All missed rehearsals and performances will require a make-up assignment. Instructions on how to request a make-up assignment are posted in the Band Handbook and on Canvas under “Modules.” Grades will be updated on Focus every two weeks. Band Honors Credit for Juniors and Seniors: Students may choose to take Band Honors 5-6 in their third and fourth year of high school band. Students who are interested in auditioning for All-State, auditioning for All-County, and/or participating in District S&E MPA should consider taking Band Honors 5-6. This is the last week to make your request. Please see Mrs. Robinson if you have not already done so. Band & Auxiliary Shoes: All students received their band and auxiliary shoes last week in class. Students who needed to request a different size will receive their new pair on Monday in class. Please contact Mrs. Robinson if you still need to order shoes for your student. Extra Shirt and Shorts Orders: Most of the students who ordered extra shirts and shorts should’ve received these orders. We did run out of a few sizes and have already ordered more. We hope to have all extra shirt and short orders to students by this week. Thank you for your patience. Marching Pride Duffel Bag Orders: All auxiliary students who ordered a duffel bag received these in class. We are in the process of ordering more bags. The estimated production time will be 5-7 weeks. Thank you for your patience. Thursday Rehearsal Attire (Thurs. 8/24): We have a required practice attire for every Thursday night rehearsal. For this Thursday, band students will wear a black shirt (any shirt that is black) with dark colored shorts. Auxiliary will wear their normal white on black. The required practice attire helps when cleaning drill on the field. Thank you for your cooperation. Pep Rally (Fri. 8/25): There will be a 1:00pm all call for students to report to the band room and prepare for the pep rally. Band students must wear this year’s gray Marching Pride shirt with neutral-colored bottoms and gym shoes. Auxiliary students must wear this year’s black WNW shirt with neutral-colored bottoms and gym shoes. Home Game vs. Evangelical Christian School (Fri. 8/25): Our first home game of the year is this Friday! Call time for students is 5:00pm. The band room will be closed from 2:30-4:30pm. Band students will wear this year’s gray Marching Pride shirt, this year’s black marching band shorts, and dark colored gym shoes with socks. Auxiliary students will wear this year’s black WNW shirt, pregame leggings, tights, black auxiliary shoes, earrings, and full hair and makeup. The game starts at 7:00pm and tickets are available on gofan.co. If you are not attending the game, please be prepared to pick-up your student around 10:00pm. Students will text and call their rides when they return to the band room at the end of the game. PLEASE READ Game Day Student Drop-off and Pick-up: For Friday, please drop-off your student in either the back of the school by the portables or in the bus loop. Student pick-up will be in the main loop by the flagpole. Thank you for your cooperation. Game Day Student & Staff Parking: All Marching Pride students, staff, and parent volunteers will park in the back parking lot by the portables for Friday night’s game. The front parking lots are reserved for paying spectators. You will be asked to move your vehicle if you park in front of the school or in the bus parking lot located behind the visitor’s stands. Thank you for your cooperation. Stadium Clean-up (Fri. 8/25): As part of our agreement in selling concessions at the game, it is our responsibility to help clean up the stadium after every home game. Clean-up duty is assigned by section, and it alternates for every game. This Friday, clean-up duty is assigned to the Woodwind Section. (Brass will have the next home game. Auxiliary and Percussion will have the game after that.) Students will be provided with gloves when they return to the stadium. This process does not take long when all assigned students help out. Band Equipment Check (Thurs. 8/31): Mrs. Robinson will hold an equipment check in class on Thursday, August 31st. This equipment check will count as a grade in the “Assignments” category. The list of required band equipment per instrument can be found on page 7 of the Band Handbook. Instrument Repair & Equipment: Our trusted local vendors are Cadence Music and Christman Music. Both vendors drop of orders and pick-up instruments for repair at PRHS—but parents must call the vendor to make these types of arrangements. Instruments will not be picked up unless orders for repair are made with the vendor ahead of time. Contact information for Cadence Music and Christman Music can be found on page 7 of the Band Handbook. Tri-M Music Honors Society Information Meeting (Wed. 9/6): Tri-M is holding an Information Meeting on Wednesday, September 6th at 11:50am in the band room. Tri-M Music Honors Society is a National Association for Music Education (NAfME) program, which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy. Students must be a junior or senior who is currently enrolled in band, auxiliary, orchestra, or choir. Students must also have completed at least one full year of band, auxiliary, orchestra, or choir with a maintained “A” average grade in their music class in the previous year. There is also a minimum unweighted GPA requirement of a 2.7. A flyer with more information will be posted in the band room.
