When you join the Palmetto Ridge Marching Pride, you join an organization with some of the best students in the school. Our students our hard working, respectful, disciplined, kind, and they love to have fun! Here are the most common questions we hear from prospective members.
How do I join band?
Request the class through your counselor and contact the band director so that she has your information. Email Mrs. Robinson at [email protected].
Can you do sports or other activities if you're in band?
Yes, majority of the students in band are also in sports and other school activities. If you choose to commit to multiple activities, you must be willing to put in the time and effort for both activities. You will be expected to have good communication with the director so that she can help you manage both commitments.
Is there an audition to join?
If you are a woodwind or brass student, auditions are not required. We have optional incoming freshmen woodwind and brass auditions in April. Incoming freshmen can choose to audition into a higher-level band. All other freshmen are automatically placed into our Wind Symphony concert band.
Percussion students are required to audition for marching band season drum placements. These auditions are held in April.
Students interested in joining our Auxiliary Team (flag, dance, and weapon) are required to pass an audition in order to join. These auditions are held in May. All students in our Auxiliary Team are expected to learn how to spin a flag and dance.

The Marching Pride performs at all home football games and most away football games. We also compete at 2-3 regional competitions each year and perform at local community holiday parades.
All of our ensembles perform at FBA District Music Performance Assessments every year: District Marching Band MPA, District Jazz Band MPA (for jazz band), District Solo & Ensemble MPA (select band students), District Auxiliary MPA (auxiliary students), and District Concert Band MPA (all concert bands).
If our ensembles qualify, we also perform at FBA State Music Performance Assessments.
The Marching Pride also provides its students with in state and out of state travel opportunities. Band is not easy. It will take hard work, dedication, and a lot of effort. But in the long run, our students have fun because they find success and they build friendships that last a lifetime.
what is band camp like?
Band camp takes place in late July and early August. At band camp students learn how to march, rehearse music/choreography, learn drill, and we spend time getting to know each other. While band camp requires hard work, it is an extremely fun bonding experience, and is necessary for the band to achieve the level of excellence that we aim for.
