Quality Equipment
Each student must have a quality instrument and mouthpiece for their instrument that is approved by the Band Director. This is due to the need for a like sound from each student. No student may use an unapproved mouthpiece in rehearsal or performance without the permission of the Director. Our trusted local vendors are Cadence Music in Fort Myers and Christman Music in Naples.

Online instrument purchases
It is not recommended that parents and students buy musical instruments online. When purchasing an instrument, it's always ideal to play and test it out as you would with a pair of shoes. Our trusted local vendors will always offer instruments made by the most reliable brands on the market. While online vendors may offer instruments that look the same at a much lower cost, these instruments typically require constant repair and do not produce a quality sound. These are our recommended online vendors:

Lone Star Percussion www.lonestarpercussion.com

FAQs on Equipment
What can I use as a name tag?
You can purchase a name tag at any music store. Otherwise luggage tags work great or you can stick masking tape on your case and write your name on that. The important thing is to make sure that your name is on your case.
does it really matter what kind of equipment I buy?
Yes. You always want to be sure that you're buying quality equipment. The quality of your reed, mouthpiece, ligature, and/or sticks does affect the quality of your sound.
how often do I need to swab out my instrument?
It's recommended that students swab out their instruments after every use. This will help to make sure that your instrument is in good playing condition. When you leave the moisture inside your instrument, you increase the chance of growing bacteria inside your instrument. The moisture will also gradually get into your pads and keys, which will make it harder to play in the long run.
how often do i need to oil my valves and slides?
It's recommended that students oil their valves before every use. Slides should be greased about every two weeks.
