Hopefully, you received the Tropical Storm Ian update from the district. For now, we will continue with our plans for this week. If there are any updates, we’ll be sure to send those out via email and social media. Thank you to Mr. Rowtie, our Band Boosters, Band Staff, and Student Leaders for all of their help in preparing the band room and Music Department areas in the event that there is a storm. This week we have an away game at Gulf Coast High School. Krispy Kreme Orders are also due by this Friday. On Saturday, we have a marching band rehearsal in the backfield from 8:00am-2:00pm. Please be prepared with water, sunscreen, and a bagged lunch. Here are last week’s Marchers and Section of the week. Make-up Assignments: All missed rehearsals and performances will require a make-up assignment. Instructions on how to request a make-up assignment are posted on Canvas. Thursday Rehearsal Attire (Thurs. 9/29): For this Thursday, band students will wear a black shirt with dark colored shorts. Auxiliary will wear a white shirt with black bottoms. Away Game at Gulf Coast HS (Fri. 9/30): This week’s game is an away game at Gulf Coast High School! Healthy Snack will be at 4:00pm. Call time for students is 4:30pm. This Friday, band students will wear their full marching band uniform and auxiliary will wear their pregame uniform! Underneath their uniform, all band students will wear this year’s green Marching Pride shirt, this year’s black marching band shorts, tall black crew socks, and marching band shoes. Auxiliary students will wear their pregame top, pregame leggings, tights, black auxiliary shoes, earrings, and full hair and makeup. Auxiliary students will not wear their show uniforms this week. All students are expected to travel together to and from Gulf Coast HS via school bus. The game starts at 7:00pm and tickets are available on gofan.co. Please be prepared to pick-up your student around 10:30pm. Students will text and call their rides when they leave GCHS and then again when we are close to approaching PRHS. Third Quarter Break at Gulf Coast HS: All students will eat during their 3rd quarter break, but that will not be until after 8:00pm. Students will have to bring money to purchase their meals at GCHS. These meals are not included in the band fee. We have not received a list of what they offer at concessions. We advise that students have at least $10-15 to spend at concessions. Saturday Marching Band Rehearsal (Sat. 10/1): This Saturday’s rehearsal is scheduled from 8:00am-2:00pm. Band students are asked to wear a white shirt with dark bottoms. Auxiliary is asked to wear a pink shirt with black bottoms. Please remember to bring your jug of water! There will be a lunch break at 11:30am. All students will have to pack their own lunch, just like band camp. This rehearsal will be graded, and all students are expected to attend. Students who do not attend will have to complete a make-up assignment in order to perform at the Lehigh Competition. If this make-up assignment is not completed with a passing grade, students will be suspended from the Home Game Performance on 10/7 and the Lehigh Competition on 10/8. Krispy Kreme Fundraiser (Due Fri. 9/30): Our Band Boosters are holding their annual Krispy Kreme Fundraiser! Students have the option to sell boxes of donuts and/or digital coupons. Boxes and digital coupons are $12 each. Students who are going to Texas will have the opportunity to earn $5 towards their trip for every box/digital coupon sold. This is also a general fundraiser for our program, so we’re asking all students to participate. Students who are not going to Texas will help raise money for marching band season expenses. There are separate instructions on how to sell digital coupons online and then there is a separate order form for those who wish to sell boxes of donuts. Dancing Cubs Fundraiser: Our Band Boosters are holding their annual Dancing Cubs Fundraiser. We are inviting students in grades PreK-8 to come and dance with our Auxiliary Team during 8th Grade Band Night on Friday, October 7th. The first practice is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27th! Moments that Matter Travel Scholarship Opportunity (Due Fri. 10/28): Bob Rogers Travel is offering a $500 scholarship to a participating student in an upcoming tour. Applicants should have a financial need for the scholarship. BRT will only consider the first 5 applicants per traveling group, and they will award 1 scholarship per traveling group. The scholarship competition is now open. Applications are due by 3:00pm on October 28, 2022. SYTA Youth Foundation Road Scholarship Opportunity (Due Fri. 10/28): Student & Youth Travel Association is offering a $750-1,000 scholarship to students who are unable to afford the cost of student group trips. To apply for this scholarship, students need to be nominated by a teacher. Students will be nominated based on academic achievement, music achievement, need, initiative/involvement, service/volunteer efforts, and school/band attendance. If you want to be nominated, please fill out a Letter of Recommendation Request Form and return it to Mrs. Robinson by Friday, October 28th. Last week was a short but busy week with a home game and car wash fundraiser! The Car Wash was very successful yesterday. Thank you to everyone who came out to work the event. It looked like a lot of our students took advantage of the opportunity to raise money towards their trip to Texas!

Band Handbook Assignment On Canvas (PAST DUE): Believe it or not, we still have students who have not turned in this assignment…All students were given a Band Handbook Assignment on Canvas on August 18th. The assignment was due on Friday, August 26th. The assignment can be found on the Band Canvas Page under Modules. The assignment is to be submitted electronically on Canvas. Tri-M Music Honor Society Info Meeting (Mon. 9/12): Tri-M is holding an information meeting on Monday, September 12th at 2:15pm in the band room. Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy. Students must be a junior or senior who is currently enrolled in orchestra, choir, band, or auxiliary. Students must also have completed at least one full year of band, orchestra, choir, or auxiliary, they must have maintained an “A” average grade in their music class in the previous year and they must have at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA. Both vendors can drop off orders and pick-up instruments for repair at PRHS—but parents have to call to make arrangements ahead of time. Instruments will not be picked up unless orders for repair are placed ahead of time. Contact information for Cadence Music and Christman Music can be found on the band website under the “Students” tab. Marching Pride Sponsors: We are reaching out to local businesses and contributors to the arts to help fund our program. Special funding projects that could use sponsors include the cost to transport instruments to marching competitions and the cost to transport instruments to Texas. Every gift helps to provide our students with life-changing experiences.
