Last Wednesday, Tri-M Music Honors Society had elections for their officers! This year’s officers are: Blake Waligora (President), Jack Waligora (Vice President), Anna Hudson (Secretary), Jean Andy Bonet (Treasurer), Andrew Borbor (Historian), Ellie Carvajal (Band Representative), Elizabeth Cianflone (Orchestra Representative), Laci Prue (Chorus Representative), and Samantha Mugavero (Auxiliary Representative). Congratulations to our students!
Last Friday, we had our 8th Grade Band Night/Dancing Cubs! We had a blast, and we hope that our guests did too. We look forward to having the 8th graders as future members of the Marching Pride! On Saturday, the Marching Pride competed at the Naples Southwest Florida Games Marching Band Competition. Our students had a great performance, we hope you didn’t miss it! The Marching Pride placed 1st in Class 5A and won Grand Champion! They won Best Music, Visual, General Effect, Percussion, and Auxiliary in Class 5A and Best Overall Music and Visual. We are so proud of our students! Keep up the good work and congratulations! We want to thank all of our band staff and parent volunteers who came out to support the Marching Pride at Saturday’s competition. As you can see, it takes a lot to run a program of 215 students. We were so thankful to have so many parents help out with truck crew and chaperoning. We’d like to especially thank Anthony Rowtie, Eileen Fuentes, Miguel Font, Kristian Newton, Dana Rowtie, Bill Strom, Sandra Llorca, and Erika Guerra for their leadership with our Band Boosters and parent volunteers. Thank you for supporting our students and the Marching Pride! This week is another big week! We have an away game at Fort Myers High School on Friday and the Marching Pride is competing at Riverview, FL on Saturday. Here are last week’s Marchers and Section of the week. Honorable Mentions: Shaun Anderson (woodwinds), Erik Ceballos (brass), Ray Patterson (percussion), Thais Chan, Jillian Paquette (auxiliary) Anna Hudson and Santiago Nieto (officer). Marchers of the Week: Jonathan Eysaman (woodwinds), Eddie Feliciano (brass), Dylan Hubbell (percussion), Yasmine Corral (auxiliary), and Miranda Ramos (officer). The Section of the Week was the Mellophone Section led by Section Leaders Joshua Loewel and Samantha Burke! Congratulations! Here's what you need to know for our upcoming events. This Week's Schedule: Monday (10/17)
State Marching Band Championships (Sat. 11/19): Hopefully, everyone saw the email that was sent out last week. The Marching Pride has the opportunity to compete at State Championships on Saturday, November 19th. On Tuesday, students will be given a contract to state whether or not they plan on attending. This contract will include rehearsal dates after 11/5. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students. Students who choose to not travel to State will be written out of the show after MPA (10/29). This is so that the competing students have time to fill in their holes. These students will also be given make-up assignments, which will be posted on Canvas. More information will be provided in class on Tuesday. Away Game at Fort Myers HS (Fri. 10/21): This week’s game is an away game at Fort Myers High School! Healthy Snack will be at 3:30pm. Call time for students is 4:00pm. This Friday, all band students will wear this year’s green Marching Pride shirt, dark colored athletic shorts, tall black crew socks, and marching band shoes. If the Fort Myers marching band is not wearing uniforms or if rain is predicted, the band will just wear their band shirts and shorts. Auxiliary students will wear their pregame top, pregame leggings, tights, black auxiliary shoes, earrings, and full hair and makeup. Auxiliary students will not wear their show uniforms this week. All students are expected to travel together to and from Fort Myers HS via school bus. The game starts at 7:30pm and tickets are available on gofan.co. Please be prepared to pick-up your student around 10:30-11:00pm. Students will text and call their rides when they leave FMHS and then again when we are close to approaching PRHS. Third Quarter Break at Fort Myers HS: All students will eat during their 3rdquarter break, but that will not be until after 8:00pm. Students will have to bring money to purchase their meals at FMHS. These meals are not included in the band fee. We have not received a list of what they offer at concessions. We are confirming that they will be able to provide concessions for our students. We advise that students have at least $10-15 to spend at concessions. Riverview Tampa Bay Fall Music Games Competition (Sat. 10/22): Call time is 11:30am. There will not be a rehearsal prior to leaving for the competition. Band students will wear their full marching band uniform and auxiliary will wear their show uniform. Underneath their uniform, all band students will wear this year’s black Mad World shirt, this year’s black marching band shorts, tall black crew socks, and marching band shoes. Auxiliary students will wear their show uniform, tights, tan shoes, earrings, and full hair and makeup. Please remember to eat lunch before 11:30am call and bring water for the bus! Students will eat dinner at Riverview High School. They will need to bring money to buy dinner at concessions. More details will be sent out in a via email. Cookie Dough Fundraiser (Due Fri. 10/28): Our Band Boosters have decided to extend our Cookie Dough Fundraiser for another week. Orders will now be due by Friday, 10/28. Students who are going to Texas will have the opportunity to earn fundraise towards their trip. This will also be a general fundraiser for our program, so we’re asking all students to participate. Students who are not going to Texas will help raise money for marching band season expenses. Order forms will be given in class on Monday. Please contact Band Booster Vice President, Mrs. Sandra Llorca at [email protected] if you have any questions.
