Marching Pride Update

On Wednesday August 5th, CCPS announced that “each high school will now serve the students requesting Option 3 with flexible scheduling.” This means that PRHS students who choose Option 3 will remain as PRHS students instead of eCollier Academy. The best source for all CCPS Moving Forward Information is the CCPS website: www.collierschools.com.
 
Most of the information provided in this update is a repeat of what was sent last week. There is some new information for Auxiliary Auditions, Percussion Auditions, and our next Social WebEx Meetings.
 
Auxiliary Placement Auditions (Mon. 8/10):  Thank you to all of the students who participated in this week’s Help Session. We’re looking forward to seeing all of your auditions. All audition videos are due by 4:00pm on Monday, August 10th. All students will send their videos by uploading them to the following link: https://driveuploader.com/upload/ujsII6Bkg1/. We hope to post the results by Friday, August 14th.
 
Student Social WebEx Meetings (Wed. 8/12): Our next set of Social WebEx Meetings will be next week Wednesday, August 12th. For this meeting we’re going to have a Scavenger Hunt/Show and Tell Competition between Sections. All meeting links were sent via email. This is the schedule:
  • Dance vs. Guard – 10:00-10:30am
  • Trumpets & Tubas vs. Percussion – 10:45-11:15am
  • Saxes & Horns vs. Trombones & Euphoniums – 11:30am-12:00pm
  • Flutes vs. Clarinets – 12:15-12:45pm
 
Percussion Placement Auditions (Thurs. 8/13): Thank you to all of the students who participated in this week’s Help Session. These are the stick heights we mentioned during the meeting:
  • 8-8-16 – 8”
  • Accent Tap – 8”-3”
  • Double Triple Beat – 6”
  • Chicken & a Roll – 6”-3”
  • Triplet Rolls – 6”-3”
We’re looking forward to seeing all your progress in your next submission. All final audition videos are due by 4:00pm on Thursday, August 13th. All students will send their videos by uploading them to the following link: https://driveuploader.com/upload/aKN6Ql99FE/. We hope to post the results by Monday, August 17th.
 
When is the first marching band rehearsal? Mrs. Robinson will start after school rehearsals in the week of August 31st. We will still begin by only rehearsing sections at a time, once a week after school to allow better social distancing and extra safety precautions. These once a week sectionals will occur until at least early September. This is the projected schedule:
  • Monday, August 31st – Woodwind Sectionals, 6:00-8:30pm
  • Tuesday, September 1st – Auxiliary & Percussion Sectionals, 6:00-8:30pm
  • Thursday, September 3rd – Brass Sectionals, 6:00-8:30pm
  • Tuesday, September 8th – Auxiliary & Percussion Sectionals, 6:00-8:30pm
  • Wednesday, September 9th – Woodwind Sectionals, 6:00-8:30pm
  • Thursday, September 10th – Brass Sectionals, 6:00-8:30pm
 
Why are we only rehearsing in sectionals once a week? Mrs. Robinson feels that it’s best to start rehearsing in smaller groups before having all 220+ students combined all at once. These sectional groups will allow Mrs. Robinson and the staff to work with less than 80 students at a time. A smaller amount of students at a time allows Mrs. Robinson and the staff to run rehearsals with better social distancing.
 
What about football games? It looks like there may be three home games and three away games this year. We will provide a schedule when it is posted. As of right now we do not foresee that the band will be allowed to perform at away games, but we do plan on attending all scheduled home games.
 
Where can I see all other dates for games, rehearsals, and performances? All of our tentative dates are posted on our band calendar, which is available on our band website: www.prhsbands.org. It is highly recommended that all students and parents synch the band calendar with their phones. Instructions on how to sync our calendar with your phone are also provided on the calendar page.
 
Kick-Off Meeting: Dates and times are TBD.
 
Band & Auxiliary Fees: Instructions on how to turn in band fees will be sent via email. Please do not send any payments to the school until instructions have been given.  
 
What does the band fee cover? Uniform cleaning and maintenance, one marching band t-shirt, a pair of marching shorts, music, field drill, additional band staff, and other costs that are needed throughout the season.
 
What school owned instruments are available for rental? We can only provide the following instruments: piccolo, oboe, bassoon, tenor sax, bari sax, bass clarinet, French horn/mellophone, euphonium/baritone, and tuba/sousaphone. The District has provided all CCPS band programs with enough instruments to prevent students from having to share instruments.
 
Why is there a percussion fee? This percussion fee helps to cover the cost of marching sticks, drumheads, mallets, and all percussion equipment.
 
What does the auxiliary fee cover? One band t-shirt, a pre-game uniform top, black leggings, one pair of tights, music, field drill, additional band staff, and other costs that are needed throughout the season.
 
Physical Exams & Required Forms: The following forms are required by all students in order to participate in band. Students will not be allowed to participate without submitting the following on AthleticClearance.com. Please complete these forms by Monday, August 31st. 
  • Proof of Medical Insurance
  • Physical Form
  • Consent and Release from Liability Certificate
  • Assumption of Risk and Liability to Coronavirus/COVID-19 Form
These forms are available through the provided links on the band website. They are also available on when you log into AthleticClearance.com.
 
Concert Band Placements: Mrs. Robinson will re-evaluate all students when school resumes.
