2020-2021 Percussion Audition Information

How do I send my audition video?

All students will upload their audition videos to the following link: https://driveuploader.com/upload/aKN6Ql99FE/. Please do not attempt to email your audition video. The file will be too large and may get lost.

What will I need in order to complete my audition?

  1. A device to create a video recording of their playing
  2. A metronome
  3. A practice pad, snare drum, or marching tenor drums
  4. Snare sticks (students playing on marching tenors may use tenor sticks)

Audition Requirements

Click here for the packet of required exercises: 8-8-16, Accent Tap, Double Triple Beat, Chicken and a Roll, and Triplet Rolls. Students will record themselves playing the following in this order:

  9. Triplet Rolls with the metronome set at 120
  10. Triplet Rolls with the metronome set at 140

Audition Guidelines

  • Students must play along with a metronome at the required tempos specified above.
  • Students must mark time while playing the required exercises listed above.
  • Students must perform their audition on a practice pad or snare drum. If you are auditioning for marching tenors and happen to have a marching tenor set or marching tenor practice pad at home, you may perform your audition on that. Please do not perform your audition on a drum set or anything else that is not a practice pad, snare drum, or marching tenor drums.
  • The camera must be positioned in a way that we can see the student from head to toe. We want to see your posture, hand technique, and timing in your feet.
  • Make sure that we can hear your playing along with the metronome. Choose a quiet area to record your audition. For example, make sure that the TV isn’t playing in the background.
  • Your video should be recorded in one take, so please do not sent 10 different videos for each submission. Record yourself playing all of the required exercises in one video.
  • All students will upload their audition videos to the following link: https://driveuploader.com/upload/aKN6Ql99FE/. Please do not attempt to email your audition video. The file will be too large and may get lost.

When is everything due?

  1. Your first video is due by 4:00pm on Thursday, July 30th. This is just a preliminary video.
  2. We will hold an Instructional WebEx with our Percussion Instructor Mr. Dang on Thursday, August 6th.
  3. Your final video is due by 4:00pm on Thursday, August 13th.
